Striker Antoine Semenyo has been ruled out for three months with a severe shin injury. This news is bad for Ghana and Bristol City.
The Robins striker will miss all of pre-season and the first set of games of the 2022/23 campaign.
Semenyo went home early from Ghana duty this month, having made his debut for the Black Stars against Madagascar on June 1.
The injury was first deemed to be minor, but after experiencing further discomfort and having concerns about his summer participation, the 22-year-old saw a specialist this week.
The shin injury has been confirmed as serious, and Semenyo is unlikely to return to training before the beginning of September, however, there is some hope that Robins head of medical Dave Rennie and his staff may shorten the timeline significantly depending on how the injury reacts during his recovery.
Semenyo missed Ghana’s games against the Central African Republic, Chile, and Japan. He is likely to miss the Afcon 2023 doubleheader against Angola in August and September.
