Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey remains coy on whether he will represent Ghana in future

Brighton and Hove Albion right-back Tariq Lamptey remained tight-lipped after he was asked whether he represent Ghana in the future.

The 21-year-old has arrived in the West African country to spend time with his family and watch Black Stars’ 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar in Cape Coast on Wednesday as well as giving to charity.

Lamptey asked England U-21 coach Lee Carsley to be left out of the squad for the European U-21 Championship qualifying games because he is weighing up his international future.

“To be honest, I just had to come just to… The season is finished now. It’s been a long, good season,” the former Chelsea defender told Joy Sports.

“I just came just to relax, just to try and do some charity work and see how the foundation is doing, see some family and friends, and not think about football too much.”

He added, “Maybe, I know the game is on so if I have the chance to go and watch that will be good but not too much football other than that, just try and relax and do one or two things that I came here to do.”
