Bournemouth are close to completing an £11.1m move for Sevilla right-back Juanlu, with new manager Marco Rose nearing the final stages of building his squad.
The 22-year-old is expected to join the Cherries on a long-term contract for an initial £9.4m, with a further £1.7m potentially due in add-ons.
Juanlu is a tall, attack-minded full-back who has already gained considerable experience despite his age. He has also represented Spain extensively at youth level.
The Sevilla defender would become Bournemouth’s third signing of the summer. The Premier League club have already brought in Antonio Silva from Benfica for £25.7m and striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for the same fee earlier in the transfer window.
Rose is now understood to be focused on adding a reserve goalkeeper who can challenge Djordje Petrovic for the starting position. Bournemouth are continuing their pre-season preparations ahead of a historic campaign in which they will compete in the Europa League for the first time.
The club also remain active in the market regarding striker Enes Unal, who Bournemouth are keen to sell. Sevilla have shown an interest in the Turkey international, although he has other options in Turkey and Saudi Arabia as he considers his next move this summer.
Senior sources at the Vitality Stadium say Eli Junior Kroupi, Rayan and Alex Scott are not available for transfer.
Juanlu’s potential arrival would give Rose another option at right-back as Bournemouth prepare for the additional demands of European football alongside their domestic schedule. The move is being finalised as the club continue shaping a squad capable of competing in the Europa League for the first time in their history.
Bournemouth’s summer recruitment has already involved significant investment, with Silva and Rodriguez each costing £25.7m. Juanlu’s proposed deal would take the club’s incoming business further while also adding a younger attacking full-back with experience from Sevilla and Spain’s youth teams.
The remaining priority is a goalkeeper to provide competition for Petrovic. Beyond that position, Rose’s squad is considered close to completion, although the club are also working to resolve Unal’s future.
The striker’s possible departure is separate from the interest in Juanlu. While Sevilla are among the clubs to have shown interest in Unal, the Turkey international is also considering opportunities in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Bournemouth’s plans for the summer therefore include both completing Juanlu’s arrival and finding a suitable outcome for Unal, while retaining Kroupi, Rayan and Scott.
