Bordeaux defender Gideon Mensah wants Otto Addo to be handed the Black Stars job as he believes the Dortmund assistant coach is the right man for the top position.
Last month, Addo served in an interim capacity, ensuring that the Black Stars qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of bitter rivals Nigeria.
He masterminded the team’s 1-1 draw in Abuja, three days after a goalless draw in Kumasi, as Ghana secured a spot in Qatar thanks to the away goal rule.
There are talks underway to confirm the 46-year-old as a permanent coach, with Mensah in complete support.
“Me as a playing body, I don’t know if I’m in the right position to give that answer but obviously me as a player now if I’m going to have Otto Addo as my coach in the World Cup, I’m going to be glad,” Mensah exclusively told Footballghana.com.
“I worked with him these past days and I feel like he is going to be the right guy for the job but I’m not the one to decide so anyway, whoever comes in we just have to fight for the country and fight for our people.”
Addo is expected to be named coach before the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in late May. Ghana are in the same group with Angola, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will face Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea at the World Cup later this year.
