Bolgatanga woman appeals for help over husband’s constant demands for intimacy

A married woman from Bolgatanga has appealed for help over what she describes as her husband’s repeated and spontaneous demands for sexual intimacy, saying the situation has resulted in frequent pregnancies, physical pain and emotional distress.

Speaking on Lawson TV, the woman said her husband often initiated intimacy without warning and did not give her time to prepare emotionally. She said the lack of communication had made the experience difficult and left her with little control over family planning.

“My husband enjoys impromptu sexual intimacy. He does not give me a heads-up before any intimacy. He does not even prepare my mind for it; he just does it,” she said.

The woman said her husband’s behaviour had contributed to her becoming pregnant frequently. She added that the repeated pregnancies had affected how she was viewed by people in her community, where she said she had been mocked and labelled as someone who wanted to keep having children.

“As a result of that, I frequently get pregnant, and because of this I have been tagged as the woman who loves getting pregnant in my community. It is no fault of mine,” she stated.

She explained that she had tried to monitor her menstrual cycle by keeping a personal record of her periods. However, she said her husband’s decision to initiate intimacy without prior discussion made it difficult for her to use that information effectively when planning her family.

“I even have a book that I use to track my menses, but the man does not give me a heads-up before any intimacy,” she added.

The woman said she wanted her husband to communicate with her before initiating intimacy and allow her time to prepare mentally and emotionally. In her view, that preparation was important both for her wellbeing and for making intimacy a more comfortable experience.

She said the absence of such communication had made intimacy painful instead of pleasurable.

“I would have preferred if he took his time to prepare my mind, but he does none of that. As a result, it is only pain I feel when we have it,” she said.

Her appeal focused on what she described as a persistent pattern within the marriage rather than an isolated disagreement. She said her efforts to track her menstrual cycle had not provided an effective solution because decisions about intimacy were made spontaneously by her husband.

The woman also linked the situation to the emotional pressure caused by public comments about her pregnancies. She said the label attached to her in the community did not reflect her own wishes or intentions.

Her account highlighted the difficulties she faces in discussing intimacy, emotional preparation and family planning within the marriage. She appealed for help after saying repeated pregnancies, community ridicule and the physical discomfort she experiences had left her distressed.
