Black Stars midfielder elated after helping Gent to end 7-year trophy drought [Asempa FM SportsNite] —

Ghana international midfielder Elisha Owusu feels elated after helping KAA Gent to beat giants Anderlecht to the 2022 Belgian Cup trophy.

Owusu, who turns 25 in November, was introduced as a 106th-minute substitute for Sven Kums and the ex-Lyon man played a crucial role in the success story.

Gent, who had previously won the title 3 times before Monday’s feat, had gone 7 seasons without a trophy since winning the league title in the 2014/15 season.

And, the latest achievement delights the France-born midfielder.

“It was a very difficult game because Anderlecht is a very good team but we were able to defeat them on penalties. We’ve not won a trophy for a long time and so it feels great to end the trophy drought,” he told Enoch Worlanyo on Asempa FM.

The midfielder earned his maiden Ghana call-up when Black Stars head coach Otto Addo handed him an invitation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

He debuted in the second-leg fixture at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium as Ghana qualified for the Mundial at the expense of rivals Nigeria following a 1-1 drawn game.
