Former Ghana international Sam Johnson says Ghana’s recent defeats in Asia should be understood in the context of a squad missing key players.
The Black Stars fell 2-0 to Japan and 1-0 to South Korea during the Kirin Cup.
“Some of the players in there are not the key players we want to take to the World Cup so that alone should change the perception because we don’t have our set, that is also a factor,” Johnson told Citi Sports.
“Some of them it’s their first time coming, some of them I don’t even know where they are coming from but they are Ghanaians and we have to allow them to play,” he added.
Johnson described the tour as an experiment and cautioned that the team is still assessing the best combinations.
Ghana will regroup in March 2026 ahead of the World Cup, and the team’s group opponents will be revealed on December 5.
