Former Ghana international Bernard Don Bortey has urged Black Stars coach Otto Addo to give home-based players more opportunities in the national team.
Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnie has received a lot of backing from ex-Ghana legends to be given the opportunity to lead the Black Stars forward.
Don Bortey has joined comments made by Asante Kotoko legend Sarfo Gyamfi that the AFCON U20 winner is also capable of leading the attack.
Speaking in an interview, Don Bortey championed the course of home-based players to be given the chance.
“Don’t just invite local players, give them the chance to play. it has been a norm in Ghana where local players are invited to the senior national team and only sit on the bench during games. The head coach of the Black Stars to do away with the norm of benching local players. Afriyie Barnieh has the capabilities to start for the Black Stars, therefore, must be allowed to start in the games.”
Daniel Afriyie Barnie and Augustine Okrah of Bechem United were the only two home based players to make the Ghana squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the World Cup friendlies.
