Black Queens: New coach Nora Häuptle calls up 92 domestic players

In the 24 hours following her announcement as the new head coach of the Ghana senior women’s national team, Nora Häuptle has already begun her new role.

As part of her preparation for international assignments for the year, the Swiss released a list of 92 home-based players who will fight for places as members of her Black Queens team.

Ghana will be involved in the 2023 Wafu Zone-B Cup of Nations and the qualifiers for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) this year.

According to the GFA, the pool of 92 players was put together from recommendations made by coaches from the 20 clubs in the Women’s Premier League.

“The objective is to create a fluid selection and to scout in future with the national team coaching staff, the performances of the players in the Ghana Women’s Premier League,” it added.

The players will gather at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence (GSCE) in Prampram so Nora can have the opportunity to make her judgments.

The players have been split equally into two sets for a two-week pruning exercise.

The first batch of 46 will be in Prampram from January 9 to 12. See list:

From January 16 to 20, the other 46 will also be in the spotlight. See list:

The GFA also added that “Ghanaian players who play abroad will be brought in later to augment the squad as the technical team puts in efforts to build a formidable squad for both immediate and future competitions.”

Ghana failed to qualify for the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted by Morocco and won by South Africa.

The Black Queens played just one game in 2022 and finished the year 59th in the Fifa World Rankings.
