Black Queens beat Benin 3-0 in Nora Häuptle’s first match

New Black Queens coach Nora Häuptle took charge of her first game as Ghana defeated Benin 3-0 in an international friendly at Stade de l’Amitié Général Mathieu Kérékou on Sunday.

The Ghana women’s senior national team registered all the goals in the first half.

Striker Princella Adubea opened the scoring after being found by a Grace Asantewaa-tailored pass from midfield in the 28th minute.

More chances came the way of the Queens but they continued to fluff them until Princess Owusu put one in to double the lead in the 37th minute – a goal on her maiden appearance.

It was midfielder Evelyn Badu who made it 3-0 with a superb strike after Les Amazones of Benin failed to deal with a corner kick in first-half stoppage time.

Despite the change of personnel on both sides in the second half, the tempo of the game did not change.

Goalkeeper Cynthia Fiindib Konlan denied Benin several times as Ghana held on to victory.

Next up for the Black Queens is a test against cross-border neighbours Togo on Saturday, February 25.

Coach Nora Häuptle is preparing the Black Queens for upcoming games in the Wafu Zone-B Women’s Cup and the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers later this year.
