Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says he is eager to have an extended training camp with his squad before the start of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Ghana sealed qualification for the tournament in emphatic fashion, defeating Egypt 7-0 on aggregate in the final round of qualifiers to secure their return to the continental stage.
Speaking to Joy Sports, the Swedish coach emphasized the importance of a long pre-tournament camp to help the team prepare effectively.
“I would love it if we could stay together for a couple of weeks before the tournament starts,” Bjorkegren said. “It really helps when we can spend more time training, meeting, and getting together. Otherwise, it’s difficult when you only have two or three training sessions and just two games.”
Bjorkegren added that the final decision would depend on FIFA’s international calendar, but stressed that extended preparation time could make “a real difference” in the team’s performance.
The Black Queens will begin their build-up to the tournament with a friendly against England on December 2 at St. Mary’s Stadium.
