Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed his desire for a longer preparation period with his players ahead of next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ghana sealed qualification for the continental showpiece in emphatic style, defeating Egypt 7–0 on aggregate in the final round of qualifiers to mark their return to the tournament.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Bjorkegren, who guided the Queens to a bronze medal finish at the last edition in Morocco, believes that more time together could make a decisive difference this time around.

“I would love it if we could stay together for a couple of weeks before the tournament (WAFCON) starts,” he told Joy Sports in an exclusive interview.

“That time really helps us when we can train, meet, and build chemistry as a team.”

The Swedish tactician noted that short FIFA international windows often make it difficult for national teams to have adequate preparation.

However, he remains hopeful that arrangements can be made for a longer camp before the tournament kicks off.

“That is something we will take a good look at now that we have qualified for the WAFCON. It depends a little bit on the FIFA window and all those kinds of things, but that time really helps us when we can spend more time training, meeting, and getting together.

“Otherwise, it’s difficult when you only have like two or three trainings and you have just two games because…That holy time will make the difference if we can have it.”

With qualification secured, attention now turns to Ghana’s preparations.

The Black Queens are expected to face England in an international friendly on December 2, a key step in fine-tuning the squad before the 2026 WAFCON.
