Benjamin Mendy pleads not guilty to nine counts of sexual offences

Suspended Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy pleaded not guilty to nine sexual assaults.

In August 2021, the left-back was charged with four charges of rape and one count of sexual assault after making two appearances for Man City that season.

Following the claims, the Premier League winners suspended Mendy immediately, and the Frenchman was hit with a slew of further charges during the winter months.

Mendy currently faces seven counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and one count of attempted rape against six young women.

The alleged crimes were reportedly committed between October 2018 and August 2021, and he was freed on bail before his Crown Court appearance.

On Monday, the 27-year-old and his co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, appeared in court at Chester Crown Court and pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

Matturie, from Eccles in Salford, is accused of rape and sexual assault against eight young women between July 2012 and August 2021.

Following their not guilty pleas on Monday, Mendy and Matturie are scheduled to appear in front of a jury on July 25, while the two defendants remain free on bond.
