Belgium-based Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu believes Ghana is in a difficult group for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.

The four-time winners have been drawn in Group E along with Angola, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic.

Following a disastrous campaign at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon, Otto Addo’s side will begin another quest to win the AFCON trophy.

And, Owusu has spoken about the draw which was held in South Africa on Tuesday evening.

“For me every African game is difficult. When I [came during the World Cup qualifiers] I saw the quality of the game. For me every game in Africa is difficult so I rate the game-high and I believe we will qualify for the [AFCON],” he told Enoch Worlanyo on Asempa FM’s SportsNite show.

“If I’m given the opportunity to play in the qualifiers why not? I will avail myself to represent my nation. Every Ghanaian player wants to play for Ghana and AFCON is one of such platforms where you can represent your nation,” he added.

The midfielder earned his maiden Ghana call-up when Black Stars head coach Otto Addo handed him an invitation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying double-header against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

He debuted in the second-leg fixture at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium as Ghana qualified for the Mundial at the expense of rivals Nigeria following a 1-1 drawn game.
