Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has expressed satisfaction with his side’s goalless draw against Hohoe United in Friday’s Ghana Premier League clash, describing the result as a fair outcome to a fiercely contested Volta derby.
The Week 17 encounter at the Hohoe Sports Stadium was played at high intensity, with both sides pushing for bragging rights in the first Volta derby of the 2025/26 season. Hohoe United came closest to snatching all three points but squandered a second-half penalty, while Heart of Lions also failed to capitalise on a clear scoring opportunity.
Speaking after the match, Hayford admitted the difficulty of the contest and praised the competitive spirit shown by both teams.
“It was a very tough game because both sides didn’t want to lose. The home side played aggressively and we matched them boot for boot,” he said. “They missed a penalty, we also missed a clear chance. I think a draw is fair.”
The experienced coach added a light-hearted reflection on the regional rivalry, suggesting the shared point preserved harmony between the two communities.
“Maybe God didn’t want one to be happy and one to be sad, so we are all sharing the points and going home,” Hayford noted.
The result keeps Heart of Lions sixth on the league table, while Hohoe United remain 15th as the relegation battle intensifies.
