Bashir Hayford laments fading star power of local players

Veteran coach Bashir Hayford has expressed concern over the diminishing aura of Ghana Premier League players.

He believes players are now too visible off the pitch, which has reduced the admiration they once enjoyed from fans.

Speaking to Oyerepa FM, Hayford said players in the past were rarely seen outside matchdays, making them appear more special in the eyes of supporters.

“In the past, fans could only see players on match days at the stadium.

“Today, players are everywhere; ghettos, drinking spots, streets and it’s made them too common in the eyes of supporters,” Hayford lamented.

Meanwhile, Heart of Lions are still in the race for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title.

The Kpando side sit third with 53 points, just one behind leaders Nations FC, and are set to face Basake Holy Stars next in Matchday 31.
