Spanish giants FC Barcelona have, on Monday evening, confirmed a fresh fitness blow in the club’s personnel ranks.
The player to have picked up an injury? Sergino Dest.
Full-back Dest was of course afforded his latest start just shy of 24 hours ago, slotting in on the right of Barca’s back-four for the club’s La Liga meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
The United States international, though, was hooked with just 45 minutes played at the Camp Nou, amid suggestions that boss Xavi Hernandez had been left infuriated by Dest’s efforts en route to Rayo taking a shock lead in proceedings.
Sergino Dest was pulled by Xavi at the half for Barcelona after being partly to blame for Vallecano’s opening goal.
‘Xavi is furious with Dest’ according to Spanish announcers.

Such reports, however, appear to have been wide of the mark.
This comes with the Blaugrana having since released a statement on Monday, confirming that their talented young defender has ‘injured the semitendinosus muscle in his right hamstring’.
Dest, as a result, is facing a spell on the sidelines, likely to sit out when Barcelona welcome RCD Mallorca to Catalunya next weekend.

Garcia makes the difference
Word of Dest’s fitness blow of course caps off what has proven an altogether troubling 24 hours at Barcelona.
After appearing to get things back on track courtesy of a hard-fought downing of Real Sociedad during the week, Xavi and co. welcomed Rayo Vallecano to the Camp Nou, no doubt confident in their chances of making it two wins on the bounce.
When all was said and done, however, a hugely underwhelming display culminated in the evening’s hosts being put to the sword by a goal to nil, courtesy of Alvaro Garcia’s strike inside the game’s opening ten minutes:
