Sunday afternoon, Real Madrid will face Barça in a Clasico which promises to be explosive! Luis Figo is one of the players who have worn both shirts. The France Football Golden Ball in 2000 played in Barcelona from 1995 to 2000, then with the Merengues from 2000 to 2005. His transfer to the Madrid rival for 60 million euros caused a stir. The Catalan supporters had experienced it as a huge betrayal on the part of the Portuguese who had affirmed his love for the Blaugrana, before signing for Real. Figo has looked back on his move from Barcelona to Madrid. In an interview with the Guardian, the attacking midfielder once again explained why he chose to join the Madrid club. Comments relayed by the Spanish media Sport.
“At Barcelona I had everything, but you think: it’s not like I was going to a second-rate club. If it hadn’t been Madrid, maybe I wouldn’t have left. C It was a challenge, a decision based on feeling valued, convincing myself that I was going to be a very important piece. It might not have been, but it wasn’t, thank God.. .”
Luis Figo then spoke about the friends he had left in Barcelona, following his departure for Real Madrid:
“Maybe it was good because I thought they were my friends, but in the end they weren’t. You realize that. When it happened, they didn’t want to appear with me anymore at because of this transfer. It’s complicated, but I understand. Well in reality, I don’t understand, but I don’t care. In the end, I have a very strong conception of friendship, so you’re surprised; you suffer because you have a relationship with people you think are unique and it doesn’t turn out well in the end.”
