The Jordan Football Association has officially confirmed that Badou Zaki will be presented as the new head coach of the national team, with a news conference scheduled for Thursday, 6 August.
The Moroccan has been appointed for an initial one-year contract after the association’s board, chaired by Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, agreed to place him in charge of Jordan’s senior side. Zaki succeeds his compatriot Jamal Sellami and will lead the national team in its upcoming commitments.
The Jordan Football Association issued a statement on Sunday confirming the arrangements for the coach’s formal introduction.
“Jordan Football Association will hold a press conference at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 6 August, at its headquarters, to present the Moroccan coach of the senior national team, Badou Zaki, and discuss the features of the upcoming phase for the national team,” the statement said.
The association added: “The association invites representatives of accredited media outlets to attend the presentation ceremony and cover the press conference.”
The event will give Zaki the opportunity to speak publicly about his appointment and the next stage of his work with Jordan. The association did not provide further details about the issues to be discussed at the conference.
Zaki arrives with a distinguished record as both a player and a coach. During his playing career, he helped Morocco reach the last 16 of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, a historic achievement for the national team.
He was also named Africa’s best player in 1986 and enjoyed a notable spell with Spanish club Real Mallorca. His playing career established him as one of Morocco’s most prominent football figures before he moved into management.
As a coach, Zaki guided Morocco to the final of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations. He has also managed several clubs and national teams during his career.
Among the clubs he has coached are Wydad AC, Fath Union Sport, Kawkab Marrakech and Ittihad Tanger. At international level, he has also taken charge of the Sudan and Niger national teams.
His appointment marks a change in leadership for Jordan following Sellami’s departure. Zaki will now prepare to oversee the national team’s forthcoming challenges under a contract lasting one year.
The Jordan Football Association’s statement formally confirmed the appointment and provided the first details of the public presentation. The Thursday conference will be the next official step as Zaki begins his role with the Jordan national team.
