Aziz Yakubu bags two goals and an assist in Rio Ave win over FC Porto

Ghana striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu bagged a brace as Rio Ave FC stunned champions FC Porto 3-1 in the 2022/23 Taça de Portugal Sunday night.

The 23-year-old – who made his stay at Rio Ave permanent after a blistering campaign in the second-tier last season – is now on three goals in four top-flight games.

Rio Ave blazed Porto with three first-half goals.

Aziz scored the opener when he managed to stay onside before connecting home a low grounder in the 22nd minute.

Left-back Pedro Amaral doubled the lead in the 33rd minute from an Aziz assist.

Two minutes from the halftime break, Amaral returned the favour by delivering a cross for Aziz to head home his second of the night.

Porto got the consolation goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time through Martinez.

Rio Ave lie 14th in the 18-team Taça de Portugal standings with 4 points from 4 matches.
