Former Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has thrown his support behind Black Satellites coach Desmond Ofei, following the team’s painful exit from the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The national U-20 side, after showing early promise in the tournament, saw their World Cup hopes dashed after a dramatic quarterfinal loss to hosts Egypt on Monday at the New Suez Stadium.
Ghana needed a win to book a spot at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile but were edged out 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw through extra time.
Despite the heartbreak, Ahinful believes Ofei remains the right man for the job and has called for patience and continued faith in the coach’s work.
“Everybody wants Desmond Ofei to succeed,” he told Asempa FM.
“He has started well and I have met him a couple of times at the Black Stars camp, but I believe he will get the time to rewrite the wrongs.
“I have not had time to engage him personally, but let’s hope that he stays right with his work and does the right things.”
