Majeed Ashimeru is edging closer to a six-month loan move to Belgian side RAAL La Louvière, with one clear target in sight: a return to Ghana’s World Cup plans.
The midfielder is set to leave Anderlecht in search of regular playing time after a frustrating injury-hit spell that has stalled both his club and international momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ashimeru has not featured for Anderlecht’s senior side this season, struggling to regain full match rhythm following a muscle injury suffered last year. While he has made four appearances and scored once for the club’s U23 team, a pathway back into the first team has remained uncertain, prompting the decision to seek minutes elsewhere.
For the 28-year-old, consistent football is no longer optional. His last appearance for the Black Stars came at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, played in early 2024, where he picked up an injury that disrupted his progress. Since then, a lack of competitive action has seen him slip down the national team pecking order as competition in Ghana’s midfield intensifies.
The proposed loan to RAAL La Louvière is aimed at reversing that decline. Anderlecht will reportedly continue to pay Ashimeru’s full salary, allowing him to focus solely on rebuilding form, fitness and confidence.
With 12 caps since making his Black Stars debut in 2021, Ashimeru knows the margins are tight. A strong run of games during the loan spell could be decisive in forcing his way back into Ghana’s World Cup picture.
