Asante Kotoko clash with Dreams FC, Lions host Aduana FC Sunday

Asante Kotoko are in dire need of their first win since October 13 when they pip Aduana FC 1-0 at home with Kalo Ouattara scoring the only goal of the match.

The former League champions will host Dreams FC in a pick of the pack on at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Sunday. Asante Kotoko suffered their first defeat in five games to Nsoatreman FC on Thursday – to end their unbeaten run – regardless, the Reds boasts of two wins, two draws and one loss with their last home game against Bechem United ending in a 1-1 draw.

The Porcupines have dominated meetings against Dreams FC at home since the 2015/16 season. Asante Kotoko have beaten Dreams FC three times in four meetings at home. Dreams FC snatched a point from Asante Kotoko in the last game of the 2022/23 season having beaten the Porcupine Warriors 2-0 in the reverse fixture at theatre of Dreams – Dawu.

Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum’s side have lost once in their last five games with two wins, two draws and one loss with the likes of Kalo Ouattara, Steven Mukwala Desse, Nana Banyin Amoah, Andrews Ntim Manu, Sherif Mohammed, Peter Acquah Amidu, Henry Ansu and Rocky Dwamena all available for selection.

Dreams FC dropped to the bottom half of the table after the 2-0 loss to Berekum Chelsea on Wednesday. The Still Believe lads have lost three, drawn one and won one in their last five League games with their last win dating back to Sunday, October 22 when they beat champions Medeama SC 2-1 at home. On the road, Dreams FC hold a very poor record following three defeats and one draw in trips to Bechem United, Accra Hearts of Oak, FC Samartex 1996 and Legon Cities. The CAF Confederation Cup campaigners have yet to find their rhythm after grabbing only two wins in their first 8 League games.

Coach Abdul Karim Zito will heavily rely on the experience John Antwi in this encounter. Others include, Ismael Dede, Agyenim Boateng Mensah, Richard Mensah, Ebenezer Adade, Abdul Aziz Issah, Enoch Abuu, Captain Abdul Jalilu and Sylvester Simba.

The game will be broadcast live on StarTimes Adepa channel 247 on Sunday at 3pm.

In Other matches –

Berekum Chelsea will host FC Samartex 1996 at the Golden City Park on Sunday. The Blues recovered from an unexpected home loss to Nsoatreman FC to beat Dreams FC 2-0 on Wednesday.  Berekum Chelsea have won two of their last four home games with the other two ending in a draw and defeat. Nsoatreman FC for the second time on the spin beat Chelsea at the Golden City Park to compound their issues at home. The former champions are 10th on the table with 10 points having won three, drawn one and lost four in the league. Stephen Amankona, Collins Ameyaw, Emmanuel Sarpong, Kusi Pandrous, Augustine Henneh, Lord Amoah and Awuah Dramani are all available for selection.

FC Samartex are third in the League table with 13 points – 3 points behind leaders Nsoatreman FC and two points adrift of second placed Aduana FC. The Sameraboi lads have won two, lost two and drawn one in their last five League games – their last away game against Medeama SC ended 1-0 Akoon Park.

Fresh from the defeat to Accra Hearts of Oak, Medeama SC will do battle with Legon Cities at the El-Wak stadium on Sunday. The League champions have a good record against the Royals in Accra having beaten them 1-0 last season.

In Tamale – Real Tamale United will return to the Aliu Mahama stadium as host of Bechem United. The Tamale lads suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Nations FC on Wednesday and will aim for a win to restore some pride. Real Tamale United recorded back to back wins over Accra Lions and Karela United before losing to Aduana FC and Nations in their last two outings as they occupy the 12th position with 10 points. Bechem United seem to have picked up from an unconvincing start to the season as they have climbed up to the 6th spot with 11 points.

In Sunyani – Bofoakwa Tano and Nations FC will lock horns at the Coronation Park. Bofoakwa Tano suffered their first loss of the season to Aduana FC on Wednesday while Nations FC shook off their disappointing start with a 4-0 win against Real Tamale United at home. Nations FC are winless in their first four away games while Bofoakwa Tano are also unbeaten at home. Saaka Dauda scored a brace for Bofoakwa Tano at Dormaa but his heroics fell short as his side lost 4-2 to the two-time League champions. Bofoakwa Tano sits in the 5th spot with 11 points – 5 points off the top while Nations FC sit in 15th place with 8 points.

At DUN’s Park – Bibiani Gold Stars will host Accra Lions in another tricky clash.  

While Accra Lions are winless in their four away fixtures, Bibiani Gold Stars are unbeaten at home. Lions drew 2-2 draw with Medeama SC in Tarkwa, 1-1 against Berekum Chelsea, lost 3-0 to Accra Great Olympics before picking a point against Bofoakwa Tano after a 1-1 draw in Sunyani.

Gold Stars hold a record of 25 wins at home in 38 League games played at Dun’s Park with 8 draws and 5 losses. The Miners are unbeaten at home this term with two wins against Asante Kotoko and Real Tamale United and draws against Heart of Lions (2-2) and Accra Hearts of Oak (1-1).

Accra Lions beat Heart of Lions 2-1 on Thursday to end their six-game winless run. Accra Lions currently occupy the 14t spot with 9 points while Bibiani Gold Stars sit in 8th place with 10 points.

Finally on Sunday, Kpando Heart of Lions will aim for their first win of the season when they clash with Aduana FC at the Hohoe stadium. Heart of Lions suffered their first loss of the season to Accra Lions on Thursday – bringing to an end a 7 game unbeaten run. With one game in hand – the returnees’ boasts of one loss and six draws in the league as they occupy the bottom spot with 6 points. Aduana FC are unbeaten in their last three games – boasts of one win in their last two away games having beaten Real Tamale United 3-1 on Sunday. Prior to that, they had lost 1-0 to FC Samartex 1996, 2-1 to Legon Cities and 1-0 to Asante Kotoko. Aduana FC are in second place on the League log with 15 points – one point behind leaders Nsoatreman FC and 9 points richer than bottom place Heart of Lions.
