Manchester United are investigating whether Arsenal would consider selling England international Myles Lewis-Skelly, although the Premier League club currently prefer to keep the defender at Emirates Stadium.
United have held a long-standing interest in Lewis-Skelly, who has made 75 appearances for his boyhood club and won six caps for England.
The 19-year-old became an important part of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad during the 2024-25 season. His performances attracted widespread praise as Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and progressed to the latter stages of the Champions League.
However, Lewis-Skelly’s path into the first team was not entirely straightforward. Despite expectations that he would establish himself as one of the key members of Arteta’s side last season, he struggled to secure regular playing time during the first half of the campaign.
A run of productive and impressive performances later appeared to ease speculation about his future. Lewis-Skelly’s displays strengthened his position within the Arsenal squad and suggested he had a significant role to play under Arteta.
Despite that progress, Manchester United have now revived their interest in a potential deal, according to The Independent. The club are “investigating” whether Arsenal would be willing to sell the player.
Arsenal’s current preference is to retain Lewis-Skelly, with the defender regarded as part of Arteta’s plans at Emirates Stadium. The situation could nevertheless change if the Arsenal manager completes two further major signings.
Arteta is reportedly considering deals for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior. If both moves are completed, Lewis-Skelly’s position at Arsenal could be reassessed.
The player joined Arsenal during the 2024-25 season and impressed as the club challenged at the top end of domestic and European football. Arsenal finished second in the Premier League and reached the advanced stages of the Champions League, while Lewis-Skelly continued to develop within the senior squad.
His progress also led to international recognition with England, for whom he has now played six times. That growing profile is understood to have contributed to Manchester United’s continued interest.
United’s latest approach, however, does not mean Arsenal have decided to part with the player. The current position is that Lewis-Skelly remains wanted by the north London club, with any change dependent on the development of Arteta’s squad and the possible arrivals of Guimaraes and Vinicius Junior.
For now, Manchester United are assessing the possibility of a transfer rather than operating on the basis that Arsenal are ready to sell. The decision remains with Arsenal, whose stance could be influenced by the shape of their squad once the reported midfield and attacking targets are resolved.
