Arsenal target Vinicius Junior in record-breaking move as Real Madrid contract stand-off deepens

Arsenal have made a €145m offer for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior in a move that could become the biggest transfer in the English club’s history.

The proposed package consists of €135m in guaranteed payments, with further sums available through additional clauses. The approach represents a serious attempt by the Gunners to sign the 26-year-old Brazil international during the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have finalised their formal proposal to Real Madrid as uncertainty continues to surround Vinicius Junior’s long-term future at the Spanish club. His current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2027.

David Ornstein reports that Vinicius Junior is open to the possibility of moving to the Premier League. That development would place Real Madrid under significant pressure as they consider the future of one of their most important attacking players.

The Brazilian winger’s willingness to consider a move to England has added a new dimension to negotiations. Arsenal’s interest is no longer understood to be hypothetical, with the club having put forward a substantial financial commitment in an effort to make the transfer possible.

Reports in England have also suggested that Arsenal have reached a preliminary agreement with Roc Nation, the agency representing Vinicius Junior. The London club reportedly plans to offer the player the biggest contract in its history in order to persuade him to join.

That proposed deal would underline the scale of Arsenal’s ambition. The club are prepared to make Vinicius Junior one of their highest-paid players, while the €145m bid would represent a major investment in an established international forward.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are facing an increasingly difficult decision. The club have reportedly received no response from Vinicius Junior to the contract renewal offer presented to him a year ago. Talks over an extension have remained stalled for several months, leaving Real Madrid with limited room to manoeuvre.

The Spanish side must now weigh up whether to accept Arsenal’s sizeable offer or retain the player and risk losing him for nothing at a later stage. Vinicius Junior will be able to negotiate with other clubs as he moves closer to the final period of his contract.

The situation could also have wider consequences for Real Madrid’s attack. Kylian Mbappe has one year remaining on his own contract, raising the prospect that the club could lose both of their leading forwards within a relatively short period.

Real Madrid therefore face a central question over their next move: should they allow Vinicius Junior and Mbappe to leave, or attempt to convince the Brazilian to remain at the Santiago Bernabeu despite the prolonged failure to agree fresh terms?

For Arsenal, the proposed move would represent an extraordinary statement of intent and potentially the largest deal in the club’s history. For Real Madrid, it is a decision over whether to cash in on one of their leading stars now or continue trying to secure his future beyond 2027.
