Arsenal make £35m offer for Serie A striker

Arsenal have seen a bid for Sassuolo and Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca rejected, according to reports.

This comes after it was confirmed on Friday that Alexandre Lacazette will be leaving the club on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June.

With Lacazette moving on, Arsenal have Eddie Nketiah as their sole senior striking option, as Folarin Balogun is certainly not ready for regular game time with the Gunners.

So, it is imperative that Arsenal sign a new striker this summer if they are to stand any chance of competing in the Europa League or finishing in the Premier League’s top-four. A number of players have already been tipped to fill that role, the main one being Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.

Now, though, a new name has emerged, with Italian outlet the Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that Arsenal have made a £35m offer for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca.

It is added, though, that Sassuolo, who finished 11th in Serie A last season, are demanding a fee of £45m to part ways with their star striker.

Who is Gianluca Scamacca?

Sassuolo signed Scamacca all the way back in 2017, when he joined the club from PSV’s youth system.

The forward subsequently impressed on loan, and was finally handed a chance at his parent club this past season.

And, so far, Scamacca is taking full advantage of that opportunity. He scored 16 goals in 36 Serie A outings in 2021/22. He was also called up to the Italian national team for the first time in September of last year.

Scamacca is under contract with his current side until 2026.
