Arsenal have £76m bid rejected for centre-forward

Arsenal’s search for a new striker has received a fresh update on Sunday, as it has been revealed that the Gunners have put in a bid for Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen is currently plying his trade in Serie A with Napoli, where he has scored 28 and assisted nine in 61 outings to date.

18 of those goals have come in 31 outings across all competitions this term – a solid record and one much better than any of Arsenal’s current striker options.

However, though Osimhen would likely improve Arsenal’s attack, it does not look as though Napoli are too keen to part with him.

According to Calciomercato, Arsenal have seen a £76 million bid for Victor Osimhen.

It is claimed the Italian outfit won’t accept anything less than £90m for the 23-year-old, who is under contract at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium until 2025.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have also been linked with Osimhen and a battle with Arsenal could be on the cards when the summer transfer window opens.

However, £90m does seem like a fairly steep fee and Arsenal, or any club for that matter, may be better served looking somewhere else.

Gabriel Jesus, for example, is said to be available for around the £55m mark this summer, though Arsenal could potentially knock that fee down to lower than £50m given that Jesus is set to be largely surplus to requirements at the Etihad once Erling Haaland arrives and due to the fact he is out of contract in Manchester next summer.

Outside of Jesus, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lille’s Jonathan David and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins are all options who would likely set Arsenal back less than the £90m allegedly being demanded by Napoli for Osimhen.
