Antonio Conte has opened up on what he feels his Tottenham players can learn from their 1-0 loss at the hands of Brighton.
Spurs faced off with the Seagulls in Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off, and headed into the game as clear favourites after dominating the likes of Newcastle and Everton of late.
However, when all was said and done in north London, a late Leandro Trossard strike was enough to secure Brighton the win.
And now, Conte has suggested that, on the back of their defeat, his side must learn that ‘if you’re not able to win, you’re not to lose’:
“Certainly not a good result for us and a lesson that we can learn today that there are games that if you’re not able to win, you’re not to lose,” he said. “It was very clear that today wasn’t our day, but I understand we wanted to try and get three points because it was very important for us to get three points playing before our rivals in the race for the Champions League.
“Sometimes, we need to feel. Today the game was very difficult because it was a tactical game for both sides. Brighton were very good to close every space, but we helped our opponent because we moved the ball slowly. We are able to do much better than today.”

Tottenham’s Champions League hopes
Tottenham’s loss to Brighton has once again blown the race for the top-four wide open.
Manchester United won on Saturday, whilst Arsenal lost, meaning there are now just three points separating the three clubs in the Premier League table.
Spurs still boast the advantage as they sit 4th with the best goal difference, but Conte will be praying that the club’s defeat to Brighton is simply a blip, rather than the start of a downward spiral.
