Alfred Duncan’s bullet against Juventus fires Fiorentina to Conference League —

Ghanaian midfielder Alfred Duncan helped Fiorentina to end their five-season absence from European competition as I Viola defeated Juventus 2-0 on Saturday night.

Duncan, 29, slammed home a loose ball in the area as scrambling defenders failed to clear the ball from the danger zone on the brim of half-time.

Fiorentina, who won the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1961, had gone five seasons without playing in Europe.

With Atalanta succumbing to a 1-0 loss against Empoli, Nicolás González’s penalty helped Fiorentina to seal their place for next season.

Duncan, who is a former Inter Milan player, made 4 key goal contributions to Fiorentina’s campaign this season – scoring twice and assisting 2 times. In November 2021, he scored and assisted against AC Milan.

Capped 10 times by Ghana at the senior level, he is expected to be named by Otto Addo for the 2023 AFCON qualifying games against Madagascar and the Central African Republic.

He was left out of the Ghana squad for the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon and he reacted when Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku suggested he declined an invitation.
