Alexander Djiku reveals why he joined Fenerbahçe

Alexander Djiku, the experienced Ghanaian international with 23 caps and 1 goal to his name, has shed light on the compelling reasons behind his decision to join Fenerbahçe.

The summer of 2023 witnessed a watershed moment in Djiku’s career, as the 29-year-old, boasting an impressive track record cultivated over nine seasons in France with clubs like Bastia, Caen, and Strasbourg, opted to venture beyond familiar shores.

Despite the tempting pursuit by several European powerhouses in England, Spain, and Germany, Djiku, with careful consideration, chose to embrace a new challenge in Turkish football with Fenerbahçe.

“With my advisor, we made this choice for several reasons. First of all, we were thrilled by the sporting project that was presented to us,” he told Foot Mercato.

“They explained to us that they wanted to build an ultra-competitive team by signing top recruits such as Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, Fred and Dominik Livakovic, to name but a few.

“What’s more, the club was playing in a European Cup (group leader in the Europa League Conference), which was a key factor in my choice. I’d already played in one with Strasbourg and I wanted to experience that again in the short term,”
