Al Ahly have confirmed that Marwan Attia has extended his contract with the Egyptian club until 2030, securing the midfielder’s future shortly after he scored in their opening Egyptian Premier League match of the season.
The announcement was made in the early hours of Thursday morning through the club’s official social media accounts. Al Ahly said the agreement was completed during a meeting held on Wednesday evening involving Attia and Essam Sirag El-Din, head of the club’s contracting sector.
An official statement read: “Marwan Attia, the first-team football player, has extended his contract with the club until 2030. This took place during a session held this evening with Dr Essam Sirag El-Din, head of the contracting sector, who completed all the administrative and financial procedures in full co-ordination with Wael Gomaa, the director of football.”
The club added: “The player expressed his great happiness at extending his contract and continuing his career with Al Ahly and its supporters during the coming years.”
Attia started Al Ahly’s first Egyptian Premier League fixture of the campaign on Sunday and marked the occasion with a spectacular goal in a 3-2 victory over Eastern Company ENPPI.
That result gave the midfielder an immediate opportunity to contribute to the team’s league campaign before his new agreement was announced. His contract extension now means he is set to remain part of the Al Ahly squad until 2030.
Al Ahly will return to league action on Friday evening when they play their second match of the Egyptian Premier League season against Zed.
The club’s announcement featured a message confirming the length of Attia’s new deal, accompanied by Al Ahly’s red branding and eagle symbol. The statement also underlined the player’s satisfaction at continuing his association with the club and its supporters.
Attia’s new contract was agreed through the club’s established administrative and financial process, with the contracting department completing the formalities in co-ordination with Gomaa. Al Ahly presented the deal as a continuation of the player’s career at the club rather than a short-term arrangement, with the agreement running until 2030.
The midfielder’s goal in Sunday’s opening fixture came before Friday’s meeting with Zed, giving Al Ahly a second league match in quick succession. The club will now prepare for that fixture with Attia secured for the longer term.
