Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Augustine Okrah are the two home-based players named in Ghana’s 33-man squad for upcoming international games this June.
It is also a first call to the Black Stars A squad for the duo who have been among standout performers in the ongoing 2021/22 season.
Afriyie Barnieh features as a forward for local giants Hearts of Oak. He has 10 goals and 7 assists in all competitions so far for the Phobians.
Okrah has enjoyed a career renaissance this season after rejoining Becehm United from Asante Kotoko. Featuring more in the no. 10 role, the former Al-Merreikh and Al Hilal playmaker has bagged 13 league goals for the Hunters.
Coach Otto Addo’s side will be engaged in four matches spread over the opening 14 days of the month.
Ghana take on Madagascar and the Central African Republic in Group E of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers on June 1 and 5 respectively.
As part of preparations for the World Cup, the senior national team will then head to Japan to feature in the four-nation Kirin Cup Soccer tournament where they battle the hosts on June 10 and either Chile or Tunisia on the 14th.
