Former GFA Vice President George Afriyie has welcomed the inclusion of Kim Lars Bjorkegren in the Black Stars technical team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bjorkegren, who currently handles the Black Queens, is among five new additions to the senior national team’s backroom staff.
He will serve as assistant coach alongside French trainer Alain Ravera.
The restructuring also brings in Spanish analyst Jose Daniel Martinez Alfonso for scouting duties.
Carlos Lozano Romero returns as physiotherapist after his involvement at the 2022 World Cup, while performance coach Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi completes the new-look team.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Afriyie endorsed the move.
“Kim Lars Bjorkegren in the Black Stars’ World Cup technical team is not a bad move. Coaching the Black Queens doesn’t make him less qualified,” he said.
“A 20-man technical team for the Black Stars makes sense. We’ve delayed this modernisation for too long.”
The Black Stars will assemble in March for friendly matches against Austria and Germany before opening their World Cup campaign against Panama, followed by games against England and Croatia in Group L.
