AFCON 2025: Algeria Seeks Probe into officiating after Nigeria Loss

Published: 8 hours ago
AFCON

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has formally submitted petitions to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, requesting an investigation into the officiating of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final loss to Nigeria.

The Desert Foxes were eliminated from the tournament after a 2-0 defeat, with goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.

In their complaint, the FAF alleges that referee Issa Sy made several questionable decisions, including denying Algeria a clear penalty.

The federation claims these decisions undermined confidence in African refereeing and damaged the image of continental football internationally.

CAF has confirmed it will investigate the incident, reviewing match reports, referee submissions, and video evidence.

The disciplinary board will consider imposing sanctions if individuals are found guilty of wrongdoing.
