Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Adama Traore and he could well force one of his former teammates out the exit door…
What’s the word?
According to talkSPORT transfer expert Alex Crook, the Wolverhampton Wanderers star remains a player of interest for Spurs, despite signing Djed Spence from Middlesbrough last month.
“The other name that I’ve been told that is still on their list is Adama Traore, to add some right wing-back competition,” he revealed to GIVEMESPORT this week.
Some reports suggest that the Spaniard is available for as little as £10m, with the Midlands outfit keen to cash in as he enters the final year of his current contract.
Would Traore be better than Doherty at RWB?
Bye-bye Matt Doherty?
With Spence already through the door, the potential arrival of Traore would surely mean that someone’s place is at risk and it could boil down to Matt Doherty, who has failed to impress during pre-season.
In his most recent outing against AS Roma, the Irishman was slammed for being “iffy” and “shaky” by football.london reporter Alasdair Gold. He didn’t feature at all against Rangers a week earlier, whilst Emerson Royal has often been preferred throughout pre-season.
The 30-year-old, who was signed from Wolves by Jose Mourinho, is thought to be one of several names that have been told they can leave Spurs this summer, as per talkSPORT, so perhaps it’s no surprise to see him hardly feature ahead of the new campaign.
Interest in his former teammate, Traore, only puts his place in the squad in further doubt and for just £10m, it could be a smart decision to bring the Wolves tank into the fold to provide Emerson and Spence with some much-needed – and quality – competition.
Whilst a winger by trade, the former Barcelona man is capable of playing at wing-back, as he did at times under ex-Spurs and Old Gold boss Nuno Santo and that versatility is another likely reason behind Tottenham’s long-standing interest as he could also provide valuable backup to Dejan Kulusevski.
Once lauded as “unplayable” by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and dubbed a “monster” by Southampton striker Che Adams, it’s clear that Traore has the skillset to strike fear into many a Premier League opposition.
The combination of his brute strength and explosive pace makes him a threat on any day and these attributes could see him emerge as a solid right wing-back in Conte’s exciting system.
Therefore, sporting director Fabio Paratici should push ahead to sign the Spain international for just £10m, and it’ll surely push Doherty closer to the exit door as he seemingly has no future in north London.
AND in other news, £50m maestro “wants to join Tottenham”, Paratici could seal a “stunning” 7th signing…
