Egypt defender Ahmed Aboul-Fetouh says his side is motivated by revenge ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash against Senegal.
The Pharaohs booked their spot in the last four after a thrilling 3-2 quarter-final victory over Ivory Coast at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, setting up a high-stakes encounter with the Teranga Lions.
The matchup carries added significance, as it revisits the 2021 AFCON final in Cameroon, where Senegal claimed their first continental crown, denying Egypt a place in the final and also blocking their path to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Speaking ahead of the game, Aboul-Fetouh stressed that Egypt will play with both ambition and a desire to settle old scores.
“All African teams have become strong, but we, the Egyptian national team, have 7 titles and we came here to win the eighth,” he said.
“Of course we have a score to settle with Senegal. They prevented us from reaching the World Cup and won the African title ahead of us, so we want to beat them.”
Egypt last lifted the AFCON trophy in 2010, defeating Ghana 1-0 to secure their seventh continental title. Now, with history, pride, and revenge on the line, the Pharaohs will aim to book a place in the 2025 final.
