Aaron Opoku apologizes after sending off against Darmstadt

Aaron Opoku made his first public statement on Sunday evening. Hamburg’s attacker apologized on Instagram for the nasty kick he landed on Fabian Holland.

“What happened to me doesn’t belong in professional football,” he said.

“Of course I will take any consequence and still come back stronger,”

“I make mistakes and learn from them. I would like to thank the team and everyone around me who encourage me and give me positive support,”

Coach Tim Walter hailed the growth of the homegrown attacker just two weeks ago. The winger was able to take advantage of the vacancy on the flanks after loan stints in Rostock, Regensburg, and Osnabruck, but Friday evening was disastrous for him in every way.

FC Kaiserslautern is interested in the 23-year-old winger and a deal will likely happen before the transfer closes.
