“A door closed and a window opened” – Inaki Williams after inspiring Athletic Bilbao to victory after AFCON setback

Ghana international Inaki Williams has shared his excitement after inspiring Athletic Bilbao to victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Cope del Rey.

Williams bounced back from his disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, playing a crucial role in Athletic Bilbao’s quarter-final victory over Barcelona on Wednesday night.

The forward arrived in Spain on Wednesday morning and made substitute appearance when his outfit defeated Barcelona 4-2 after extra time to secure qualification to the semifinal of the Cup competition.

Williams, initially on the bench, made a notable impact after being brought in during the second half to replace Adu Ares in the 59th minute. His contributions included a goal in the 105th minute of extra time and an assist to his younger brother, Nico Williams, securing victory for Athletic Bilbao.

“A door closed and a window opened. The reality exceeds fiction. Destiny is destiny.… Thanks God. 🙏🏿Day of glory” he wrote on X sighted by Footballghana.com.

Williams has registered 10 goals in all competitions this season.
