The German, who coached Bundesliga outfit, Arminia Bielefeld, earlier this season and prior to that Kaizer Chiefs, is familiar with Ghana football after four seasons with Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak and is on an unofficial shortlist of coaches the GFA is looking at, senior sources told KickOffGhana.com.

Middendorp was in Accra over the weekend and while he claimed the visit had nothing to do with Black Stars coaching ambition he made it clear it is a job he wants.

“It will be an honor for every coach in the world to handle the Black Stars. With their player quality, amazing form and the fact that they were excellent at the World Cup in Germany 2006 and also knowing they can qualify for that of South Africa in 2010 is even enough motivation.”

Middendorp gained a reputation as a strict disciplinarian during his time with Asante Kotoko but his three seasons at Ghana’s most successful club side still did not bring the coveted league title.

Yet he feels he did enough during his stay here to deserve the Black Stars job.

“I do not desire to apply for the job whilst it is clear that I’m not an unknown figure in Ghana. I do not think I will have to submit my CV to anyone in Ghana to remind them of my credentials.”
