Tottenham ready to raid Juventus once more for McKennie after change of heart

Tottenham are eager to strengthen their links with Juventus this summer and add Weston McKennie to their ranks, according to a report.

The success of a number of Juve stars in north London is believed to have convinced Antonio Conte to make another move on the Old Lady. And according to Calciomercato, they are seriously looking into a deal for USA star McKennie.

Conte has “requested” that Spurs make a move to land the 23-year-old midfielder. The central midfielder has been capped 31 times for the USMNT, but he is currently sidelined with a metatarsal fracture.

Conte is looking to add some depth to his midfield despite signing Juve stars Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January.

Both have been big hits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Winger Kulusevski joined on an 18-month loan deal that will cost Spurs £8.3m – £2.5m this season and £5.8m next season.

There is also an obligation to buy the Sweden international for £29.2m as long as a number of sporting milestone are hit.

Interest in McKennie could prompt sale

Bentancur meanwhile joined permanently after signing a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Spurs already have former Juventus defender Cristian Romero this season. And they are also said to be impressed with his performances this season.

McKennie is also no stranger to Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici. The Italian having brought McKennie to Juve from Schalke during his time in Turin.

Juve also have a clear plan ahead of next season with the arrivals of  Dusan Vlahovic and Denis Zakaria.

They have also decided not to renew Paulo Dybala’s contract and McKennie is a player who looks likely to leave, as per the source.

It was thought that McKennie was part of Max Allegri’s plans at the Allianz Stadium.

But that may well have changed with plenty of interest in the player, who is under contract until 2025. And it seems as though Juve could be tempted to cash in on the Texas-born star.
