UEFA block Russian bids for Euro 2028, Euro 2032

Russia’s applications to host the men’s Euro 2028 and Euro 2032 tournaments have been rejected by UEFA as part of the country’s latest penalties.

The fresh sanctions come amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, which has prompted other foreign countries and agencies to take action against the country.

Russia’s applications have been ruled invalid by Europe’s football governing body after it confirmed its interest in hosting the international championships in March, which the UK, Ireland, and Turkey have also shown an interest in hosting.

UEFA determined that the offer was inadmissible under article 16.02 of the bid regulations, which stipulates that “each bidder should guarantee that its conduct does not bring UEFA, any other bidder, the bidding process, or European football into disrepute.”

Following FIFA and UEFA’s February sanctions “until further notice,” Russian clubs and national teams now face further limits on the competitions in which they can play.

Russian clubs will be unable to play in the men’s or women’s Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League in the 2022-23 season as a result of the current ban.

Additionally, the women’s national team has been excluded from participation in this summer’s Euro 2022 competition and from qualifying for the 2023 World Cup.
