Memphis Depay has confirmed his intention to stay at Barcelona for the 2022-23 season.
As a result of signing a two-year deal at Camp Nou last summer, the Netherlands international’s future is unavoidably uncertain.
At one point, it looked as though the Catalan giants might sell Depay, but the 28-year-old has since returned to the first squad, scoring 11 goals in 24 La Liga appearances.
Despite persistent rumors over his future, Depay has said that he wants to remain at Barcelona.
Speaking to reporters after Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Mallorca on Sunday night, the attacker said: “I came here wanting to play for the team. I want to be important for the team next year and for several more years.”
After the game, boss Xavi admitted that Depay had earned his position in the team, stating that “he must play” if he continues to perform at the same level.
