James Milner sends ‘average’ warning to Liverpool

James Milner has sent a warning to Liverpool players in the wake of the Reds’ 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Liverpool faced off with Newcastle United on Saturday at St James’ Park, a tougher test than it may have seemed to must due to the Magpies’ recent excellent home form and the fact Jurgen Klopp opted to bench several key players such as Thiago, Mohamed Salah, Fabinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In the end, however, Liverpool were able to edge out a 1-0 win thanks to some brilliance on the part of Naby Keita.

Following the game, though, James Milner has warned that if Liverpool do not win anything other than the League Cup, it will be an average season for the club:

“We’ve been lucky enough to win one trophy this year but if you don’t win anything else it’s an average season for the club,” Milner claimed. “The quadruple? It’s what you guys talk about. It’s every three days now, we recover, we prepare, we go again for the next game. It’s a cycle. It’s preparation, it’s analysis. There’s always going to be talk about things like that but for us it’s the next game.

“You see the mindset, the relentlessness every day. You see the boys who aren’t playing – the level they train at the day after a game. It starts from the manager and the credit for the boys is incredible. The attitude in the dressing room is absolutely unreal.”

Can Liverpool do the quadruple?

Of the three competitions Liverpool are still competing in, the FA Cup seems the easiest to win.

Liverpool face off with Chelsea in the final and, given how poor the Blues have been of late, a victory for the Reds does seem likely.

In the Premier League and Champions League, meanwhile, Manchester City are Liverpool’s biggest threat.
