West Brom: Predicted XI vs Millwall

Published: 3 years ago
Champion League

West Bromwich Albion seem destined to play yet another game without a replacement for Steve Bruce, as they travel to Millwall under the continued stewardship of Richard Beale.

Despite opening with a win over reading, they were humbled at the Hawthorns in midweek by Bristol City.

Would you drop Grady Diangana today?

He will be surely planning a slight rethink after such a disappointing display, where they dominated the ball but created little. They did not manage a single shot on target.

With the packed-out schedule, he will likely be forced into making some changes at least, as will Lions boss Gary Rowett, who has been linked with the vacant manager’s role of their opposition.

Baring that in mind, here’s the West Brom XI we’re predicting for today’s game…

Beale is expected to make four changes from that aforementioned side that fell to defeat on Tuesday.

Alex Palmer will continue in goal despite a poor display in which he conceded from the only two shots on goal he faced. The club have something of a goalkeeper crisis ongoing, as David Button also disappointed during his stint.

The back three will remain unchanged, with Martin Kelly at the heart of it, however out wide there is expected to be a tweak.

Matt Phillips will drop to the bench in favour of Darnell Furlong, whilst Conor Townsend will occupy the left wing-back position.

That leaves space for a second change for the Baggies, as Tom Rogic returns for Jake Livermore.

The 29-year-old has a pedigree far beyond the Championship, with his former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglu dubbing him a player possessing “special qualities”, and he could be the difference-maker against an industrious side.

He will partner John Swift, who will be deployed slightly deeper in the engine room, with the hopes that Beale can spark some creativity for his side.

There will only be one change to the front line, as surely Karlan Grant will return in the place of Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Despite their shared poor form, Grady Diangana and Jed Wallace will have to continue due to a lack of real competition. They are relied upon so heavily and must start performing eventually to propel their side away from a relegation battle.
