It was strange Arsenal didn’t fill that position – Ex-England striker Gabriel Agbonlahor backs club to replace Thomas Partey in January

Former England and Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has urged Arsenal to replace injury prone Thomas Partey in the winter transfer window.

Partey has been struggling with his injury problems since joining the club back in 2020, managing to start only 18 games in his debut campaign in the Premier League.

He missed out on playing a big chunk of matches last season as well owing to fitness issues.

The 29-year-old was due to start in Ghana’s pre-World Cup friendly with Brazil, but had to pull out of the line-up minutes before the game last Friday and Nicaragua clash on Tuesday in Spain.

“Yes, Arsenal might look in January and think ‘You know what, we’re third in the league, we’re second in the league, we’ve got a really good chance this season of finishing in the top four’ and they will have to go out and get one,” Agbonlahor toldFootball Insider.

“It was strange that they didn’t fill that position, especially when they know Thomas Partey is not going to play a lot of games this season because he’s always injured. They need to definitely get one in during the January window.”

Partey has made four league appearances for Arsenal so far this campaign.
