Aston Villa come to decision on future of loanee Robin Olsen

Word stemming from the media on Thursday suggests that Aston Villa have come to a decision on the future of on-loan goalkeeper Robin Olsen.

Swedish international Olsen made the move to Villa Park during the January transfer window, cutting short another temporary spell with Sheffield United to link up with Steven Gerrard’s squad.

To this point, the 32-year-old is yet to manage a single appearance in the club’s colours, confined to bench duties behind number one Emiliano Martinez.

But, if the latest reports spreading across the press on Thursday are anything to go by, then his lack of game time has in fact had little impact on Villa’s plans for Olsen beyond the summer.

This comes amid the suggestion that the Claret and Blue have opened negotiations with their AS Roma counterparts, over making the shot-stopper’s signing permanent.

As per Football-Italia, citing Football Insider, the transfer team at Villa Park are ready to activate the €3.5 million option in Olsen’s loan deal.

The Swede, in turn, will act as backup to Emi Martinez through the 2022/23 campaign, and potentially beyond.

Foxes test

Turning attentions back towards the job at hand at Villa, Olsen will be expected to watch on from the bench once more this weekend, when Steven Gerrard’s troops mark their return to action.

A trip to the King Power Stadium lies in wait, for a Premier League meeting with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City.

Saturday’s visitors will head into proceedings desperate for a bounce-back result, fresh off the back of a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Tottenham making it a quartet of successive defeats over the course of the last month.
