West Brom dealt Daryl Dike injury blow

West Bromwich Albion have been dealt an injury blow involving striker Daryl Dike.

What’s the news?

The Athletic’s West Brom journalist Elias Burke relayed comments made by Steve Bruce to Sky Sports on Monday night after the Baggies’ 1-1 draw against Watford.

Burke said (via Twitter): “Bruce on Sky: “Dike, unfortunately, has hurt his thigh in training yesterday. We’ll not know the extent until tomorrow, but it doesn’t look good” #WBA

Dike joined Albion from Orlando City in January in a deal worth a reported fee of around £7m. After making just two appearances for the Baggies, the forward was struck with a hamstring injury which ended up keeping him sidelined for the remainder of last season.

Big blow for Bruce

This season saw the 22-year-old make a 12-minute cameo in West Brom’s opening game against Middlesbrough before missing the match against Watford due to this latest injury.

Now that Bruce has shared this latest news surrounding the centre-forward, it will surely be a massive blow for everyone connected to the club who was hoping to see Dike begin to make a name for himself at The Hawthorns.

Bearing in mind how, after the American picked up his first injury since joining the club, the Baggies brought in Andy Carroll as a temporary replacement, it will be intriguing to see whether or not they do the same again before the summer transfer window ends.

Taking into account how Albion have now drawn their two opening Championship games of the season, it’s safe to say that they could potentially do with adding some extra firepower to their squad, especially if Dike is likely to spend a significant amount of time ruled out of action again.

Do West Brom need to sign another striker now that Dike is injured?

On the subject of potential reinforcements after his comments about Dike’s injury, Bruce said that “we’ll see what we can do”, which suggests that there still could be some business taking place before transfer deadline day.

Everyone at West Brom will undoubtedly be hoping that the American will not be out of action for too long and that the club can act swiftly if they do look to bring another striker in before the transfer window closes.
