Juventus are looking for a striker up front and Memphis Depay is one of the favourites of the ‘Bianconeri’ board. However, for financial reasons, the club cannot afford to pay the 20 million Barcelona are asking for the striker.
Juventus are considering a loan deal for the Dutchman with a mandatory 20 million buyout clause. That figure would have to be paid in the summer of 2023, which would no longer be a problem for the Italian club. But, for this to be possible, Memphis would first have to renew his contract with Barça until at least 2024, one more season than what he has signed right now.
The striker is not very keen on leaving the Camp Nou. His priority is to succeed at FC Barcelona and Juventus, according to ‘Sport’, are not going to allow this transfer saga to drag on.
The Catalan newspaper reports that Juventus have been clear with Barcelona on the matter. The Turin club have warned that if Memphis does not say “yes” soon, they will rule him out. They have other names on the table, such as Alvaro Morata.
Barça are interested in selling Memphis at any cost, even if the 20 million won’t arrive until a year later. For this reason, the Catalan club are planning to put pressure on the player these days so that he accepts the offer made by Juventus. It remains to be seen if the Dutchman decides to sign for one more season with the ‘Cules’ to be able to land at the Allianz Stadium.
