Zapping World Eleven The schedule of the blues for the 2022 World Cup
After nine years of loyal service, Gareth Bale finally left Real Madrid this summer. Free of any contract, the Welsh international has decided to join MLS and Los Angeles FC. If some saw it as an early retirement in order to best prepare for the World Cup, the latter wanted to dot the i’s.
Bale doesn’t intend to retire anytime soon!
Indeed, the Cardiff native has indicated that he does not intend to retire anytime soon:
“I’m only 32, 33 at the end of the week, and I still have many years ahead of me. I didn’t come here to be here for just six or twelve months. I came here to try to play as long as possible. I want to do the best I can, leave my mark in this league. Playing here also gives me the best opportunity to continue in view of the next Euros (2024) and maybe even beyond. So my plan really is to work hard.”
The former Merengue also intends to develop football in the United States, host country of the 2026 World Cup, with Canada and Mexico:
“For players who have been through a lot in their career, I think we also have to have a responsibility to develop this sport around the world. It’s a league that’s really growing. It’s come a long way in the last ten last years and everyone is trying to improve it. The players who come see it too. I don’t think anyone now sees this league as a league of retired people.”
