Joao Moutinho set to leave Wolves

Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho is set to leave Wolves after talks over a new contract broke down.

Moutinho has a one-year deal on the table from the Molineux club but the Daily Mail reports that he wanted a two-year contract which the club has failed to guarantee with the negotiations breaking down on Wednesday.

With the World Cup coming up in four months’ time, Moutinho has already started looking for a club that can guarantee him more playing time as he wants to be part of the Portugal team in the forthcoming tournament.

The 35-year-old remains an important player for Fernando Santos and is expected to feature in what might be his last tournament with his national team in Qatar.

Moutinho joined Wolves for about £5 million from Monaco in 2018 and there are reports that he might return to his native Portugal before the summer window closes.
